Reading
Eveyone continues to be excited to be a part of a small reading group. This is a time when students show off their reading skills such as using beginning sounds and picture clues to identify unfamiliar words. It is also a time to have fun learning new sight words using them in reading and writing sentences. We are proud of the motiviation each student brings to their reading group!
Don't forget to use www.starfall.com and www.mycapstonelibrary.com (user: mullen password: school) to have fun building reading skills. Please read nightly with your child and discuss the characters, setting, and events in the story.

Writer's Workshop
We are proud to be author's and illustrator's. Each student knows the importance of thinking and sharing their ideas before writing. We are using sight words and stretching sounds in unfamiliar words.  Each Monday we write about our weekend experience. Sunday can be a time to talk with your child what they might like to write about what they did on Saturday or Sunday.

Math
We are learning about combining groups to make a total set. You can have fun with your child adding different groups of objects at the grocery store. We have two oranges and three apples - how many pieces of fruit will we buy?

Science
We are so excited watching seeds sprout into plants. We have learned the many ways seeds travel and plants need sun, water and soil to grow into a healthy flower or plant. We have enjoyed watching the many changes around our school to signify the changes of season from winter to spring.

Class Announcements
Snack
Please continue to send a snack and drink with your child each day.
Warm Weather Wear
Students should not wear flip flops or spaghetti strap shirts to school. Flip flops are dangerous on the playground and the air temperature in the school is too cold for spaghetti strap shirts.
